MFG2011: Day Four - BNA6

The Plan: Tour some breweries, check into the conference hotel, then attend BNA6. Which brings me to a rant. Tickets went on sale on May 17 at 4 pm my time. The Brewing Network tweeted this at 9 am, 11 am and 1 pm Pacific time. Two hundred VIP tickets sold out in an hour. Almost instantly on the BN forums people started complaining. One guy even cancelled his whole trip because he couldn't get a ticket to get in an hour early and have a sausage on a bun cooked by Sean Paxton! I tried to tell him that he would get a much better meal on Saturday, but it was too late. He was mad that the BNArmy hadn't had an exclusive chance to buy the tickets, even though there had been four tweets about the sale. Some one is in need of a beer, and something to untangle panties.

Buy bloberglawp

I am a proud member of the BN Army.  I hang out in the forums under the handle Dirk McLargeHuge. A couple of years ago, another BN Army member called bloberglawp on the forums, showed up at Oakland NHC for the first BNA4.  A character in the best sende of the world, blober even has a thread on the BN Forums call "Blober the King."  In that thread, as a joke, I made a T-Shirt for him using a really creepy photo blober posted several years ago, and a slogan by codewritinfool, the BN Forum mod.

Blober is now using that design to raise money for a trip to this year's NHC.  Go order a few dozen. Everyone needs to experience bloberblawp.

Unfortunately, there is no "Phat Phuk" size.  :(

Bugeater's Winter Warmerized Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Amber

There are only a couple of rules for BN Army Soldiers: 1. Don't Be a dick, and 2. Always brew Bugeater's recipes.

A few months ago, he posted his recipe for Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Amber, and added his tips for making it a Winter Warmer. So here's what I came up with, to fit my system:

Bugeater's Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Amber
6 gal | 60% eff. | OG 1.073 | 13.6 SRM | 34.8 IBUs

14# Marris Otter Malt
2.5# Munich Malt
1# flaked Oats
1/2# Crystal 120
1/4# Crystal 60L
2.75 oz Kent Goldings 5%/60 min
1# Turbinado sugar
WLP002 English ALe

Toast the rolled oats at 325° F in a convection oven for 1 hours to achieve a light brown toast.

Turbinado sugar addition will go into secondary fermenter. Invert the sugar by mixing the sugar in ratio of 3:1 by weight with water. Bring to a boil until sugar completely disolved. Add 1 tsp lemon juice and simmer until sugar solution turns clear. Add another vial of yeast.

Steep 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp fresh grated nutmeg, 1/4 tsp whole cloves, and 1 split and scraped vanilla bean in 6 ounces bourbon until time to keg. Strain bourbon and add to keg to taste.
